Between January and April, Girl Scouts from all across America come together for their most popular fundraiser, cookie selling. These cookies outsell any Boy Scout popcorn or Girl Scout candies. Cookie selling is done in order to teach young girls lessons on finance and entrepreneurship through simulating business. The girls earn these skills by talking to their customers, setting goals, and collaborating with others. Besides selling at local grocery stores, many take to schools to sell their treats.

Not only will these girls receive incentives for selling cookies, but their profits will also go to supporting their local Girl Scout troops. As a troop, they decide on whether they like to donate the money to a cause or create a project to improve their community.

As of this year, the most popular Girl Scout cookies are Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, and Peanut Butter Patties. There has also been a new addition to the cookie family last year, S’mores, which is rapidly growing in popularity. This year, three new cookies have been introduced: Lemon Ups, Toffee-tastic and Caramel Chocolate Chip. These flavors cater to an audience who are sensitive to gluten.

“Here’s my top three: Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, and the ones with the chocolate at the bottom,” lists Saul Cervera (11).
