Link Crew
Link crew is a high school program that involves freshmen and tries to make them more comfortable throughout their high school experience. They select individuals from the junior and senior classes known as “Link Leaders” as mentors for freshmen. It involves two teachers Mr. Colazas and Mrs. Neufeld, who are the advisors of the program. In each class there are approximately 32 kids and each student gets assigned 12 freshmen. All 12 freshmen assigned to the mentors are picked randomly and are not for specific kids.

Link Crew consists of juniors and seniors because the freshmen need upperclassmen to give them the support and guidance they need. The reason for this is because they have experienced and can understand the overwhelming transition. Their main focus is helping freshmen academically, mentally, and socially to prepare them for their high school experience, letting them know that they are there to help them whether it’s with homework, checking in on them, or anything involving school on a regular basis.
It’s a great class to be a part of because you get to help kids who are in need of help or guidance. It’s not all about just checking up on freshmen to see how they’re doing in school but it’s also about giving them advice on what high school is like since the leaders have been in their shoes before when they were freshman. They are there so you don’t have to struggle and feel like you have no one to help.
The main focus in Link Crew is letting them know that the leaders are there to help them if they need anything. It is also being able to get to know and to spend time with them so they can have access to extra help if needed. Link Crew assists students in many ways. Not only do they help them with anything school related, but also forming a social bonding so they feel more comfortable communicating with others.
“ I enjoy being in Link Crew. It makes me feel important to these freshmen because I know they can count on me and my classes. I mean, the rest of the leaders have such a great vibe and I really enjoy it.” said senior Link Crew leader Emily Padilla.

Love the information about Link Crew! I think it is a really awesome way to connect the different classes of the school and help the freshman better acclimate to high school. I think that this is especially important with current digital divide that exists.
