YouTuber “Mr.Beast” teams up with environmentally-safe organizations to plant 20 million trees by 2020 worldwide, with more than $13,000,000 already donated. For each dollar donated to teamtrees.org, a tree will be planted.
Jimmy Donaldson, commonly known as Mr.Beast, started YouTube in 2012 and has since then garnered more than 25 million subscribers, with more than a million views per video.
“Everything green that pulls in CO2 is a good idea, and I just recently learned that the fastest growing tree is a bamboo tree, and it can also pull in CO2, so I hope that it can help to improve the environment,” said science teacher, Mr. Fenwick.
Many YouTubers, such as TheOdd1sOut, have donated more than $20,000 to the #teamtrees fundraiser, with people, like MrBeast himself, even donating up to $100,000. Some others like Elon Musk, the founder/CEO and chief engineer/designer of SpaceX, have donated one million dollars. Currently, the top donator is Tobi Lutke, the founder/CEO of Shopify, who donated $1,000,001.
“That’s great, it’s good to see that he cares about the environment and hopefully other big companies can donate too,” continued Mr. Fenwick.
When the website teamtrees.org first launched, its first week already raised 2 million dollars. Planting 20 million trees around the world will take up 2.6% of the CO2 emitted in the air from 2018. The Arbor Day Foundation is the organization responsible for planting all of the trees, which are planted in forests that need them.
“Usually you see blogs on the internet, but I haven’t heard about what they’re doing,” said Mr. Fenwick.
The #teamtrees fundraiser is a great idea, and with all the fires that burned down the trees, it will definitely help. Hopefully, the goal of 20 million dollars will be reached by 2020.
