Freshman football player, Jalen Cervantes, got moved up to varsity to play in the first CIF game as a defensive end.
“It’s an honor that the coaches picked me. I feel like it’s a great opportunity for me to get better,” said Jalen Cervantes (9).
The varsity football team went 9-1 in their regular season and are now playing for CIF. This means that the varsity football team will have another experienced player for CIF, giving them a higher chance of winning.
“I feel as if there were many more other players that should have been brought up with me,” continued Cervantes (9).
Adding Jalen to the team means that there are going to be more spots for freshmen on the varsity team and it will open gates for many more players. On the 8th, they had their first CIF game against Pomona. It was an away game.
As Jalen said, “We had a great lead at 52-14. Overall I feel like the team did very well and exceeded expectations. We will now be moving on to the second round in CIF.”
It was an exciting time for the freshman player Jalen, when he went in. It was his first ever varsity football game.
“There were so many emotions running through my mind and I would just like the thank all the support I got from all my family and friends,” said Cervantes.
Although he was the only freshman moved up to varsity this year, he proved he was a good pick for varsity. And the freshmen can only hope that they will be chosen to be moved up.

I first and foremost want to let my baby boy know that WE ARE SO PROUD OF YOU. I can’t even find the words without tearing up to say that you are an amamzing young man. You wear you heart on your sleeve and it has space for everyone. You took on a new challenge with playing freshman football ( with lots of hesitation from Mommy) but I’m sure glad you did. Not only did you play with love and compassion for the new sport you did it with a broken thumb for 4 weeks. Your Dad and I see something special in you and want you to enjoy every second of this new chapter called high school. It doesn’t come easy, they’ll be hard days, they’ll be easy days but push through. We love you and can’t wait to see what’s up your sleeve next. I want to thank EACH and EVERY varsity player and ALL the coaches that took Jalen under their wings and made him feel so special. To see him cry on that last night of his short CIF experience was so special and heartwarmimg to me. You boys ( he always spoke of Iverson and Andrew ) but all of you boys has left such a warm spot on my son’s heart and for that I cannot thank you enough. Thank you for making this experience so memorable for him. For the last two weeks of football he changed his name to celebrity at home and let his grandparents know thats what we have to call him. To you all I am forever grateful and thankful for that. Son don’t ever change continue being humble, grateful and thankful for all your blessings. We love you Papa and I speak on behalf of everyone.

So proud of my godson Jalen and the entire Varsity team. Thank you to the seniors that really took to Jalen and showed him support and encouragement. I know that these few weeks will forever impact his journey.
