Kicking Off: Track & Field Season

As the new season for Track and Field starts, all the coaches and players are on the field getting ready for meets. This sport involves athletic skills of running, jumping, and throwing. Some jumping events are long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault. The throwing events are shot put, javelin, discus, and hammer. The team has seasonal track meets which they compete in. 

The school’s section division is Division 1. During the track season, there are around 11 track meets. The team’s first meet is against Portola High School on Saturday, March 7. The game is away at Portola High School.

Getting to know Elyciana Brown 

Elyciana Brown is a senior at Segerstrom High School. She participates in Link Crew which helps freshmen, making it easier for them. People describe her as friendly, caring, beautiful, and active. 

Q: How do you think this season will go for you?

A: I believe this season I will make it to state, I’m setting a very high expectation for myself and I also believe that it’s going to be a great season.

Q: Do you feel excited to start competing again? 

A: I am very excited to start this season and to compete against everyone in our league because I’ve been practicing really hard and there’s a lot of late nights I’ve been working. 

Q: How do you usually feel once you get closer to your meet days?

A: When it gets closer to meet days, I get super excited and also very appreciative of how I’m feeling that day. I also love when it’s closer to meet days because my dad brings me food and I don’t worry about eating bad at school.

Getting to know; Braulio Avila 

Braulio Avila has been in track for 6 years. When he is done with football season, he switches to track to stay active. He is a junior and loves participating in sports. 

Q: How do you think this season will go for you?

A: I feel like this season we might win the league for the third time.

Q: Do you feel excited to start competing again? 

A: I do feel excited to go out and compete against other schools.

Q: How do you usually feel once you get closer to your meet days?

A: I feel nervous at first but then I get my mind ready to compete.
